Studencki Zespół Pieśni i Tańca "Katowice"

Zespół powstał w 1969 roku, z inicjatywy grupy studentów Uniwersytetu Śląskiego, jako pierwszy studencki zespół folklorystyczny w województwie katowickim. Przyjęta przez grupę nazwa oraz dobór repertuaru świadczą o dużym powiązaniu z własnym regionem. Zespół wykonuje folklor stylizowany, a w swoim programie posiada m.in. pieśni i tańce Górnego Śląska, Zagłębia Dąbrowskiego, Beskidów i Żywca. Tancerze prezentują program w oryginalnych strojach ludowych. Trzon zespołu stanowią studenci Uniwersytetu Śląskiego w Katowicach. Studencki Zespół Pieśni i Tańca "Katowice" koncertuje głównie w regionie śląsko-dąbrowskim, ale także za granicą. Polski folklor w wykonaniu zespołu mogła już podziwiać publiczność: Hiszpanii, Niemiec, Rosji, Litwy, Portugalii, Syrii, Tunezji, Cypru, Francji, Białorusi, Mołdawii, Węgier, Brazylii, Algierii, Zjednoczonych Emiratów Arabskich, a ostatnio także Meksyku, Stanów Zjednoczonych i Czech. Zespół z Katowic jest także od wielu lat gospodarzem Międzynarodowego Studenckiego Festiwalu Folklorystycznego.

The Ensemble was established, on students' own initiative, in 1969 as the first students' folk ensemble in Katowice Province. The name and the selection of repertoire bind the Ensemble with its own region. The Ensemble performs stylized folklore. In its programme it has, among other things, songs and dances of Upper Silesia, Zaglebie Dabrowskie, the Beskidy Mountains and Zywiec. The dancers present the programme wearing original folk costumes showing their beauty and richness of colour to the spectators. Both students of other Silesian colleges are the members of the Ensemble. New members to the Ensemble are also recruited from the senior years of secondary schools.

Students' Folk Ensemble "Katowice" performs mainly in the regions of Silesia and Zaglebie Dabrowskie but also abroad. The beauty of Polish folklore presented by the ensemble "Katowice" was admired by the audience in Spain, Germany, Russia, Lithuania, Portugal, Syria, Tunisia, Cyprus, France, Belarus, Moldova, Hungary, Brazil, Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, and recently in Mexico and the United States of America. The group since many years is also the host of the International Students' Festival of Folklore.
